It’s never too late.
Imagine the following women:
- a teenager at a party
- an assistant to a politician
- a young actress early in her career
- a sales director at a startup company
Now imagine that these women were all sexually assaulted and chose to keep quiet because their assaulter, was someone who was privileged.
Imagine their fear. For years the amount of therapy they underwent to deal with the emotions. The torture. The pain. The anger and embarrassment. The failed relationships. Women afraid to speak out because their feared being ridiculed and shamed by their peers. “What if no one believes me?! Will they think that this is my fault?! I can’t put my family through this.”
Imagine that one day they woke up and said “enough”. And they spoke out. They spoke out against their attackers. They finally sent the demons that were holding them silent back where they belonged. Only to become criticized by friends, family, strangers. Victim shamed all those years later. Their bravery shadowed by people who only seem to care about the lives of their attackers. ‘Their ruined careers. Their ruined lives.’
Now imagine that the victim was your sister. Your mom. Your DAUGHTER.
